Woven Loft Masterclass: Sofa Styling with Niyati Shah & House of Flair

A sofa is more than just a seat—it's the heart of a living room. It's where conversations unfold, books are read, tea is shared, and memories are made. Which is why it should reflect both personal style and soulful living.

Woven Loft presents a styling masterclass where home stylist Niyati Shah joins hands with Vaidehi from House of Flair to explore the art of sofa styling. From choosing textures and tones to mixing prints and balancing function, they share styling cues suited to modern Indian homes.

Step 1: Start with a Strong Base

Vaidehi's Tip: Every sofa—whether a compact 2-seater, a classic 3-seater, or a sprawling sectional—deserves a thoughtful base. Begin with one or two printed cushion covers and ground them with a muted tone. For prints, play with contrast in scale—one bold, one delicate. We have used the Cascade teal linen cushion, Ripple sage oblong linen cushion, Linen herringbone oatmeal cushion, Cuddle duck egg velvet round cushion, fringe fern oblong linen cushion, Trail beige cotton cushion & Sage moss knit throw.

Niyati recommends: Consider the size of your sofa when choosing cushion shapes. For example:

  • 2-seaters feel balanced with 2–3 medium cushions
  • 3-seaters can handle 4–5 cushions, with room to vary shape
  • L-shaped or sectionals offer a canvas for layering squares, bolsters, and lumbar cushions

Step 2: Style for the Mood

Seasons, occasions, and even your weekly rhythm can influence sofa styling.

For festive moments like Diwali:

  • Opt for bold ethnic prints or jewel tones
  • Add fringed cushions or metallic accents
  • Use rich textures like velvet or brocade to elevate the festive mood

Niyati shares: Let your sofa become a mood board. A quick swap of cushion covers and throws can shift the tone from everyday comfort to celebratory charm.

Step 3: Make It Livable

Design meets function—especially in homes with children or pets.

Vaidehi's Tip: Keep a woven or fabric basket near the sofa to store throws, books, or spare cushions. We have used our Quito grey basket here. Baskets add warmth add warmth , while keeping room effortlessly tidy

Step 4: How Many Cushions Are Too Many?

There’s no universal number—it depends on the sofa size and your comfort level.

Vaidehi believes: There’s no such thing as too many cushions, as long as the arrangement looks intentional and leaves room to lounge.

Final Thoughts from Niyati:

A sofa is a canvas. With a few intentional layers—cushions, throws, textures—you can take it from basic to beautifully styled.

Let it tell your story— one thoughtful layer at a time.
